The Chester County High School Eagles traveled to Lexington Friday night to take on the Big Red Tigers, and came away with a resounding 35-14 victory.
The first quarter saw the ball go back and forth until the Tigers hit paydirt with 2:20 left on the clock. The quarter ended with Lexington on top 7-0.
Halfway through the second quarter the Eagles found the endzone when Peyton Barham scored his first touchdown of the night.
Lexington retaliated with a touchdown with two minutes left on the clock on a pass making the score 14-7 in favor of the Tigers.
The Eagles did not keep the ball long when a pass to Barham was intercepted.
Jayden Williams came back with an interception of his own on a pick-six. The score at halftime was knotted at 14 going into the locker room.
The third quarter got under way and the Eagles fumbled. The ball was recovered by Lexington on the 27-yard-line. Neither team scored in the quarter.
During the final period, Barham ran the ball twice during the Eagles’ first possession with a fourth down touchdown by Williams, his second of the night, making the score 21-14 with the Eagles on top.
Barham scored his second touchdown of the night with less than four minutes on the clock, the Eagles margin grew to 28-14.
The Eagles were not finished yet. Williams intercepted a Lexington pass and scored, his second pick-six of the night. The margin grew to 35-14.
Chester County posted some outstanding stats Friday night. Williams led the scoring with two touchdowns from interceptions and rushed for a third. Barham rushed 27 times for 140 yards. His long carry was 28 yards, and he scored two touchdowns.
Jeremiah Gardner led the defense with five tackles, two solo tackles, and six assists. Landon Lewis was not far behind with four tackles, two solo tackles and four assists.
Eagles coach Dewond Johnson said, “Good win, good win. We are going to be playing for the Regional Championship Friday night against North Side. What more can you ask for?”
The final game of the regular season will be at home against the North Side Indians from Jackson. The game begins at 7 p.m.
