The Chester County Eagles showed some fight Friday night in their trip to Dyer County, but the Choctaws proved too much, handing the Eagles a 42–10 loss.
Chester County’s lone touchdown came on its second drive of the night, a 63-yard march capped off by a 2-yard run from junior Heath Stewart. The drive featured several strong carries as the Eagles’ offense found its rhythm early to even the score at 7–7.
Dyer County answered with a big second quarter, scoring three times — including a 75-yard run — to take control of the game before halftime. The Choctaws added two more scores in the second half, stretching the lead to 42–7.
The Eagles continued to battle to the end. Late in the fourth quarter, Linkin Phillips split the uprights with a 22-yard field goal to close out the scoring.
Chester County finished with 177 total yards on the night — 122 on the ground and 55 through the air. Despite the final score, head coach Dewond Johnson said he saw things his team can build on.
“Believe it or not, we did have some positive things happen during the game,” Johnson said. “We’ll go back to work and try to build off those positive things.”
The Eagles will look to bounce back next week as they continue their push through the second half of the season.
