Eagles fall to McKenzie despite electric start

Posted

The Chester County Eagles gave their fans a jolt of excitement Friday night when Jamarion Thomas took the opening kickoff 96 yards to the house. Linkin Phillips added the extra point, and just 14 seconds into the game, the Eagles led 7–0.
That would be the only trip to the end zone for Chester County. McKenzie quickly answered with a safety and a touchdown to grab the lead, then kept control the rest of the way on their way to a 41–7 win.
The Eagles’ offense never found its footing, finishing with just 111 total yards and six first downs. Heath Stewart led the rushing attack with 29 yards, while Jaden Weaver added 31 through the air. Defensively, Chester County forced 16 McKenzie penalties but couldn’t slow down the Rebels’ balanced attack.
“Things are hard right now for a lot of reasons,” head coach Dewond Johnson said after the game. “We’ll watch the film and keep trying to figure out a way to get better. Our character is being tested right now, and we must strive to keep doing the right thing in times of adversity.”
Chester County (1-2 district, 2-4 overall) will look to bounce back Friday night when the Eagles return home to host Dyer County.
