Eagles soccer rally past rival Lexington in overtime

Posted

The boys’ soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit to beat Lexington in overtime on Tuesday night.
Lexington struck first in the first half, taking advantage of a defensive mistake that led to a one-on-one opportunity at the goal. The Tigers carried a 1-0 lead into halftime and later extended it to 2-0 early in the second half after converting a penalty kick.
Chester County answered midway through the half when Jonathan Cupples scored on a free kick from Braden Walker. Later in the half, Linkin Phillips tied the match at 2-2, finishing off a corner kick—again set up by Walker—to send the game to overtime.
In the extra period, Lexington was issued a red card and played a man down the rest of the way. The Eagles took advantage, and Angel Ortega delivered the game-winner with a slow roller in overtime to complete the comeback.
Chester County finished with 19 shots, including 12 on goal. Walker led the way with two assists, while Cupples, Phillips and Ortega each scored.
Riley Meek made five saves in goal, which helped keep the Eagles in the game until the offense broke through.
