Chester County waltzed into their regional contest last Friday with three straight wins, but they left with four. They never let the Sycamore War Eagles get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory.
Not much got past Lane Estes, who gave up just two hits and racked up six strike outs to keep Sycamore off the board. Estes has been consistent for a while: he hasn’t given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaden Weaver was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Those three hits gave him a new career high. Jayce Goff went 1-3 as did Lane Estes.
Chester County’s win bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Sycamore, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-14.
The Eagles returned to the diamond Saturday to take on Hardin County in the Region 3A finals.
They lost to Hardin County back in March, but they didn’t allow them the same satisfaction. The Eagles walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
At the plate Brooks Johnson and Dean Estes had three hits each, followed by Lane Estes Caleb Cole, Jayce Goff and Braylin Robinson with two apiece. Jaden Weaver and Ethan Burks contributed one hit.
Weaver went the distance on the mound where he struck out three and gave up just one hit.
Chester County’s win bumped their record up to 21-9. As for Hardin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-7.
The Eagles are scheduled to play James Lawson High School of Nashville in the sub-state round Wednesday. The winner will advance to the TSSAA State Tournament May 15-16 in Clarksville at Austin Peay State University. (See next week’s Independent for complete tournament results.)
