The Chester County Eaglettes picked up a pair of wins and competed in several close games over the weekend at the Warrior Classic.
Chester County opened tournament play Thursday with an 8-3 win over North Daviess. The Eaglettes jumped out early, scoring in each of the first two innings behind RBI hits from Aayla Howell, Reece Collins and Jillian Patterson. Collins led the offense with three RBIs, while Howell, Collins and Georganna Pickens each collected two hits. Addy Parker earned the win in the circle, and Patterson closed the game with scoreless relief.
The Eaglettes followed that with a strong comeback win on Friday, defeating Shoals Christian 13-4. After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, Chester County responded in a big way. Howell delivered the biggest moment of the game with a grand slam in the third inning to give the Eaglettes the lead. Chester County added seven more runs in the fourth to pull away. Howell finished with five RBIs, while Patterson added three hits in the win.
Chester County dropped a pair of close games Friday, including an 8-7 loss to Colbert Heights that was decided on the final play. The Eaglettes had taken a 5-3 lead in the third inning behind RBIs from Brentlee Burgess, Reece Collins and Karsyn Knipper, but Colbert Heights answered late to pull out the win. Parker struck out 10 in the game.
The Eaglettes also fell to Florence 14-5. Chester County held a brief tie in the third inning before Florence broke the game open with a 10-run fourth.
On Saturday, the Eaglettes were again in a tight game, falling 8-7 to Bellbrook on a walk-off. Chester County battled back from an early deficit and took the lead in the fifth inning on RBI hits from Leura Rowsey and Georganna Pickens before Bellbrook tied the game and eventually won it in the final at-bat.
Rowsey led the Eaglettes with two RBIs in the game, while Pickens and Patterson each had two hits.
Chester County finished the weekend with a 2-3 record.
