The CCHS Softball Team fell victim to Lexington and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 10-0. The Eaglettes haven’t had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they’ve met.
The Eaglettes played five games in the tournament defeating South Side, North Side and Hardin County and losing two to Lexington.
Lexington went on to face McNairy County in the semi-finals and lost 7-6 and McNairy was crowned district champs.
The Lady Eagles finished the season 10-11.
The Eaglettes fought through the loser’s bracket to get a second chance at Lexington.
The Lady Eagles hadn’t done well against Hardin County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn’t let the past get in their way last Tuesday. The Eagles walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Tigers. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Tigers last Monday, they had to take a 4-3 loss.
Chester County leaders at the plate were Georganna Pickens and Brentlee Burgess. Pickens went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and one double, while Burgess went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBIs and one run. That double was Pickens’ first of the season. Emma Cox was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
The Eaglettes hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matches.
Chester County has been performing well recently as they’ve won three of their last four games. That’s provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Hardin County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-12.
