A fatal collision on Highway 45 in Henderson Thursday morning, June 5, resulted in one death and lead to a road closure and bridge inspection. According to Henderson Chief of Police Gary Davidson, officers responded at 8:38 a.m. Thursday, to a crash involving a semi-truck and a silver four-door sedan. The truck caught fire after impact with the bridge and the heat caused the tires to melt and burst. The sound of the tires exploding was heard throughout the south end of the city. The truck driver was reported deceased on the scene. The other vehicle was also severely damaged; the occupant’s condition had not been released as of press time Tuesday. US Highway 45 at State Route 100 was closed for several hours during investigation and a bridge inspection by TDOT to ensure the bridge was structurally secure for safe travel. Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Critical Incident Response Team conducted an investigation and reconstruction of the wreck. According to THP, the truck driver’s body has been sent to Nashville for positive identification by the Medical Examiner and the name will reportedly not be released until conclusion of the medical examiner’s findings. “We are saddened for this loss of life and ask you remember these families involved as well as our first responders,” said Chief Davidson.
