Good Grief

Questions

Many people in their journey with grief acknowledge in some form or fashion the belief in God. On the one hand, that is very encouraging. On the other hand, people struggle with the subject in the midst of their sorrow. It is not uncommon to hear statements/questions of why God – why did you do this, or why did you take my loved one or my friend? Let us discuss the belief in God related to grief. It is very beneficial to believe since from my experience everyone without exception expects that their loved one or friend is going to heaven. Thus a belief in the creator of the universe who has prepared for people to go to a better place is rational as it is beneficial. This is especially true given the abundant evidence proving his existence. Having someone outside of ourselves who is a constant source of support is comforting. If this life is all there is, then it is understandable why so many live a life of crime and immorality, as they believe is there is no God (Psalm 14:1). As to the why question, questioning why or questioning why God does something is certainly not bad, but if we think about how disease and death came into the world, then we already know the answer. The departure of our loved one was natural in the respect that the fall of man brought death and disease upon us, so we should not blame God, though He does understand if we do in our intense sorrow. He did not take them, but he may be receiving them.
After loss, our life still has purpose and meaning (Ecclesiastes 12:13; Isaiah 43:7; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Revelation 4:11). In anything we pursue, think or do, we should glorify him for whom we are created in his image. Thuss if more of us understood these facts of life and applied them, life would be happier and more peaceful. Think about it. Call David at 879-6284.
