Greetings from the City. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! No matter what life brings us we always have something to be glad about. Do not worry about what we do not have, but be happy for what we do have. While you are reading this article, stop and take a moment to pray for the families who are homeless or have no food, the thousands of U.S. Troops that are away from home for the holidays and the mom and dad who do not know where their child is. I often think about parents who may have lost their child/children or loved one in some type of shooting or some type of tragedy. Not only that, have you thought about the families that have lost a family member because of natural causes? Think about those families when some of us are worrying about what we do not have. We are so blessed! This month is a special month. It is the month that we will be celebrating the birth of Jesus. Let us keep the love of Christ in our hearts as we spread that love to others. Let us remember those hurting or less fortunate than us and reach out a kind helping hand to those in need. Sometimes, all it takes is a kind word, small gesture or a lovely smile to brighten someone’s day. So let us remember others.
I have news from last week. First, let me start off with the Henderson/Chester County Chamber of Commerce. Thank you for all of the hard work you do for our city; thank you for the Christmas parade, the downtown decorations and the Christmas tree lighting! So many children and family members attended the parade as well as the tree lighting. Several of them told me how much they enjoyed it. Here is what one parent told me about the Christmas parade: “The night was cold but warm at the same time; there were lots of children out with their family, and the streets were packed.” She and her children loved seeing all the old time tractors and lawnmowers. She said that overall it was nice! The City of Henderson would like to say congratulations to all of winners and thank you for all of the entries. Chamber, keep up the good work because so many do appreciate you!
To our young children here in Chester County, we are so proud of you! A big SHOUTOUT to Jed Deweese. He is a third grader here at our East Chester Elementary school. Jed read one million words this year. WOW! That is a blessing! I know his parents Dr. and Mrs. Joe Deweese are proud of him as well. This let me know that children are not just playing video games or always on their cell phone! Great job, Jed.
There were wedding bells on Dec. 5! This couple has been married for 53 years. The City of Henderson would like to say, Happy 53rd wedding anniversary to one of the most loving and sweetest couples, Steve and Ethel Croom. Your children love you so much! You all are blessed and like I always say, “KEEP THE HONEY IN THE MOON!”
On the Birthday list this week: My daughter Maria Holiday, 12/2; my grandson Frank Holiday, 12/26. He will be 2 years old. Happy belated birthday to Ebony Black, 12/6; Tyrone Harris, 12/10; Donnell Harris, 12/14; and Joe Ann Cawthon and Brandy Joyner, 12/19. Here is a special Happy Birthday to Mr. Willie Roy Whitfield known as “Sony.” Mr. Sony was 93 years young on Dec. 10. We pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
On the prayer list this week: Patsy Barber, Clarence Harris, Ivy Beard, our loved ones who are in the hospitals, those who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers, families and the men and women that are serving our country. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town during this holiday season; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and thing happening in the city, I need to hear from you! Call or text me at 608-6132.
