Greetings from the City. Every week, it is always a blessing to be with you. You already know why. One reason is that I love you, and the other reason is that this is the day the lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it!
You may be reading this paper in your home, at work, in another state or overseas serving the country. Wherever you are, THANK YOU for taking time out of your day to read about what is going on in Henderson/Chester County!
Just a reminder Father’s Day is Sunday, June 15; it is time now to start looking for something special for your father, stepfather or father figure. For those who have a great dad still living, you are so blessed! I will always talk about MY dad! Yes, I still miss my dad, Mr. Parnell Brown; it has been 44 years since I was able to tell him how much I love him! Yes, I was a daddy’s girl! I miss the long conversations we had; one thing that daddy would always end his conversation with me with was, “Daughter, don’t take any wooden nickels!” Matter of fact, daddy told all seven of his children to do your best, hold your head up, walk tall and do not take any wooden nickels! One thing that I cherish the most as a woman are the great memories I have of my father! The City of Henderson hopes every Father will have a Happy Father’s Day!
On a somber note, the city of Henderson, extends its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Annie Welch and the entire family during this challenging time. Commissioner John L. Welch was a pillar of our community, and his contributions will always be remembered. He will be missed but never forgotten. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Did you know that June 12 is designated as Women Veterans Day? The first Women Veterans Day was held on June 12, 2018, the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948. The act enabled women to serve as permanent, regular members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force. As a retired Woman Marine, happy Women Veterans Day!

June 14 is Flag Day in the United States. Flag Dag commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. Flag Day is a day for honoring the flag and what it stands for. It is the symbol of our great nation. It has flown in good times and bad times. It has flown during peace time and war time. It is an enduring symbol of freedom expressed all around the world.
Happy Birthday to the U.S. Army! On June 14, you will celebrate your 250th birthday. “This we’ll defend.” – the Army’s Motto.

Thought for today: “When we live for other voices, we will quickly become worn out and discouraged. Other people’s expectations for how we should live, act and be are sometimes unreachable. There is one voice that matters, and it can come in a variety of forms, THE VOICE OF GOD!”
