Hello to my family and friends. Today is indeed a new day and a new month to be grateful for.
It is good to be with you on another day that the Lord has allowed us to see. Remember that this is the day the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it. You can cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you! He will never allow the righteous to be shaken! I am so happy to be here with you today!
Well, the beautiful white snow is on its way out, and February has made its arrival. I know the children had fun sliding down the frozen hills on the ice; both parents and children were having so much fun. I know it was not a lot of fun for those whose power was out, but by the help of the Lord, you got through it!
In the United States, the month of February begins with a very odd ritual started in the late 1800s by German settlers in Pennsylvania. On Feb. 2, or “Groundhog Day,” some look to see if a groundhog sees his shadow. If he sees the shadow, then winter weather will last another six weeks (roughly until the first day of spring). However, if the groundhog does not see his shadow, then spring weather will come sooner. No matter what that little furry animal does, February is a frigid month across most of the country. It is the last month of winter after all. However, signs of spring do tend to emerge by the end of the month in most parts of the country. I do not know if he saw his shadow or not. One thing I do know is that I am ready for Spring and what the Lord decides is alright with me!
To all the visitors that came to the City of Henderson for the 2026 FHU Lectureship, we would like to welcome you to our City once again, and we hope you will enjoy the blessings from the Lord and our Southern hospitality. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, through Friday, Feb. 6, with all sessions in Dryden Auditorium. To avoid traveling after dark, workshop sessions will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.
February is Black History month. Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country’s history. This year’s Black History Month will celebrate the theme of “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” starting Feb. 1. Black History Month was first celebrated in 1976. The idea was developed by historian Carter G. Woodson and a group of fellow scholars, who together organized a Negro History Week, beginning in February 1926. Negro History Week slowly grew in popularity and in 1976 was expanded into African American History Month, with U.S. President Gerald Ford encouraging Americans to celebrate. You know they are trying to take Black History out of the schools, but I want you to know all history is important! I pray that will not happen!
February is also a month to celebrate love. We call it Valentine’s Day. The root of Valentine’s Day goes back to ancient times when people paid honor to the Roman God of Fertility. This was known as the Feast of Lupercalia and was celebrated even then on Feb. 14. It is a time to exchange cards or small gifts. Chocolates, flowers, jewelry and romantic dinners are the big hits of this holiday. It is also a fun event for kids and family. We have 10 days to make sure everything is ready for the people we love.
The Ninth Annual Black History Program is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 21. The event is located at the Chester County Senior Citizens Center, 247 East Main Street Henderson. The theme is A Healthy Lifestyle. The public is invited. For more information, please email to one of the following: croomamie@gmail.com, ahollingswo6@gmail.com or lwright81@gmail.com
