Hello everyone! This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! We are stepping into a new week filled with fresh opportunities, new beginnings, renewed thoughts and another chance to grow, improve and do better than before, so let us move forward with gratitude in our hearts and purpose in our steps, trusting God in all that we do.
May 6–12 is National Nurses Week. The City of Henderson would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all nurses for the incredible work you do. Nursing is a profession that requires truly special people. As we are also preparing to celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, I am reminded of the nurses who cared for our mother and supported our family during important times. My own mother was a nurse, which makes this week even more meaningful to me. During this National Nurses Week, let us take time to honor their dedication, sacrifices and unwavering commitment. I truly believe that God has uniquely called and equipped nurses for this important work!
Cinco de Mayo, celebrated on May 5, is a special time to honor Mexican-American heritage and culture. I know that my dear friend, Mrs. Laura Chavez-Boyer, along with her family and friends, joyfully celebrated this meaningful occasion. The name Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for “Fifth of May,” and it serves as a reminder of the rich history, traditions, and contributions of the Mexican people.
May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week, a special time set aside to honor the educators who have guided, inspired, and supported us along our learning journeys. Each of us can think of one or more teachers who made a lasting difference in our lives. Teachers have been a vital part of society since the beginning of time, shaping minds and building futures. This week gives us an opportunity to pause and truly appreciate their dedication and sacrifice. In my own family, we are blessed to have many devoted educators, and I have personally seen the impact teachers make every day. To all teachers, please know that your expertise, your sacrifices and your contributions do not go unnoticed. We deeply appreciate the hard work you do for our children and our communities. There are many special teachers who have made a lasting impact on our lives. Just to name a few from the past: Mrs. Ross, Mrs. East, Mrs. West, Mr. and Mrs. Saunders, Mrs. Marie Croom and Principal Trice! There are so many wonderful educators making a difference today. The City of Henderson says, “Thank you!”
Last but certainly not least, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12. For many, this is a special time to reflect and show gratitude to the women who have nurtured, mentored and cared for us throughout our lives. Mothers help shape us into who we are today, offering a love that is truly unconditional. Mother’s Day reminds me just how incredible my own mother was, not only on this special day, but every single day. She was an unsung shero, doing amazing things for her children and for others. For many of us, our mothers are now in paradise with the Lord, but we hold on to the beautiful memories they left behind. Those memories continue to guide, comfort and inspire us. So today, take time to love your mother, whoever she may be. A “mom” is anyone who has loved you, cared for you and helped raise you. Give them their flowers while they are here. Let them know how much they mean to you. To all mothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, foster grandmothers, aunties and sisters, the City of Henderson prays that you have a blessed and beautiful Mother’s Day.
Birthday wishes to my brother Dexter Brown, May 11; Vivian Kelly, 5/13; Tyron Hall, 5/15; and Jill Irwin and Kalie Hall, 5/16. The City of Henderson sends Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday this week at Southern Oaks and the Nursing Home. We pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
On the prayer list: The Johnson family. I received the news that Mr. Leonard Johnson passed away; our condolences to the family. Mr. Johnson was a pioneer of Henderson; he will be missed but not forgotten. Also, the Ross family. Mr. Cecil Ross’s service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at J.P. Baptist Church, 230 Fourth Street Henderson. Continue to pray for Vivian Kelly’s daughter, Ebony, and Audria Reeves, who is in the hospital.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Jesus understands brokenness! Because He was broken for us!
