An anonymous donor returned Henderson’s first firetruck to the Henderson Fire Department (Station 2). The firetruck was picked up by Lieutenant Bill Baldy and Henderson Firefighter Brendyn Lewis on Friday, March 28.
“I’m just glad to have been a part of bringing Henderson’s history back home,” said Baldy of picking up the truck and bringing it back to its home fire station.
The firetruck is a 1928 GMC fire engine Chassis—American LaFrance with 500 GPM (gallons per minute) at 120 pounds pump. The pump is a positive displacement and no longer able to be used. If looking very closely, “Henderson, Tenn.” can be seen on the hood.
The city of Henderson Fire Department bought this firetruck and had it delivered to the fire station in November 1928. It was used until just before 1969 and sold to the city of Saltillo, near Crump.
The current plan of use is to rebuild and restore the truck to bring to future parades and events for the use of the community. Donations are welcomed by any person that would like to help the fire station begin to start this project.
