The Ingleside-Pentagon Club met on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Henderson church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Hostesses were Lisa Beene and Anita Burton. Members present were Toni Hardin, Nancy Smith, Nancy Lofton, Spring McCutchen, Lisa Beene, Anita Burton, Janice Kent and Becky Cyr.
Lisa Beene introduced Stephen Morris as the guest speaker. Stephen is the Coordinator for Law and Politics at Freed Hardeman University. He teaches Government and Pre-Law courses along with being active in community work such as the Chester County Election Commission and the Civitan Club.
Stephen shared some very interesting information concerning our country’s Semiquincentennial, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. This birthday signifies America’s greatness that today we are still functioning as a Democratic Constitutional Federal Republic. Stephen discussed many of our country’s achievements. To name a few: the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, the Bill of Rights, the Supreme Court, the opening of the Panama Canal, the establishment of the National Park System, Women’s Suffrage, and WWII. Stephen was presented with a patriotic picture frame showing the club’s appreciation for the information he shared.
Refreshments were served by the hostesses, and door prizes were given. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 19.
