Mr. James “Jim” Leland Helvering, 82, of Bolivar died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Bolivar General Hospital.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Pinson Church of Christ with burial at the Pisgah Cemetery in Henderson. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar Chapel on Saturday, July 12, and then from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Pinson Church of Christ. He was born on Jan. 19, 1943, in Bradford, Ark., son of the late James Warren and Ethel Lee Foust Helvering.
He was a Manager for Carquest Auto Parts for 34 years and then worked at Parts City in Henderson for eight years. He was also a CPR Instructor and Certified A.E.D Instructor. He was a Charter Member of the Chester County Rescue Squad and an Auxiliary Sheriff’s Department Deputy in Chester County.
He was a member of the Pinson Church of Christ, the Masonic Lodge 485, Order of the Eastern Star, the Woodmen of the World and the Ham Radio Club, all in Henderson. He was also a cancer survivor.
He married Carolyn Ann O’Hara on May 19, 2010. They made their home in Bolivar.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son, Jack (Charlene) Helvering of Henderson; three stepchildren, Johnny Ray O’Hara of Bolivar, Candice Marie Spence of Tampa, Fla., and Michael O’Hara of Buffalo, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers; and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Linda Ray Helvering; his second wife, Daisy Cox; a brother, John Helvering; and one nephew, Billy Helvering.
