Johnny Warren Garner, 70, of Finger passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 13, 2023, at his home.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with T.J. Kirk and Larry McKenzie officiating.
Burial followed at Refuge Cemetery.
The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.
Masonic Rites were at 8 p.m. Friday evening in the chapel with John Webb officiating.
He was born April 13, 1953, in Henderson and grew up south of Henderson, the son of the late Warren G. and Bessie Faye Archer Garner. He attended Old Friendship School and East Chester Elementary and graduated from Chester County High School in 1971. He worked at Kolpak at Bethel Springs, worked in construction with his father in-law, William Mitchell, and was elected Chester County Court Clerk in 1986, serving seven full terms. After serving as county clerk, he was elected as a County Commissioner and was currently serving.
He farmed all his adult life, and he and his father were renowned for raising and selling watermelons. He also raised soybeans and hogs.
He served on the Republican Party Executive Committee for many years. He enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mitchell Garner of Finger; a son, Blake (Amber) Garner of Finger; a daughter, Dina (Alan) Garner McCorkle of Finger; and two grandchildren, Callan McCorkle and Amelia Guthrie.
