
Joyce Ann Bain Hart Brewer, 89, of Beech Bluff passed away Dec. 15, 2022, at her home.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Glenn Harris and Troy Kilzer, II officiating.
Burial followed in New Friendship Cemetery.
The family received friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church.
She was born Aug. 7, 1933 at Beech Bluff, in the Five Points Community of Madison County, the daughter of the late Carl Magellan and Esther Delena Sells Bain. She graduated high school at Pinson in 1951. She graduated from business college in Savannah, Ga., and was employed at Gurry Lumber Company as a bookkeeper. She married James Laward Hart in 1953. They were active military for 20 years and moved back to Five Points in 1972. She worked for the Madison County School System from 1973 until 1986 as a substitute teacher at Beech Bluff School and as a para-professional in special education. Mr. Hart preceded in death in 2001.
She married Robert Brewer in 2013, and they made their home at Mifflin.
She taught fourth and fifth grades and junior high and senior high Sunday school and was active in the GROW Ministry at New Friendship.
She and Robert delivered meals on wheels through the Senior Citizen Center.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Brewer; two daughters, Pamela (Alton) Hart Gay of Vienna, Ga., and Lisa (Nik) Gay Bailey of Woodland, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Will) White , Joshua Morris, Garrett (Brittney) Mann, Grant (Sandra) Mann, Stella Bailey, Joy (Marc) Murdaugh, Heather (Jay) Brewer and Bobby (Danielle) Gay; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Patricia Hodges of Beech Bluff; two brothers, Sonny Bain of Medina and Ronald Bain of Jackson; and stepchildren, Steve Brewer, Charlie Brewer and Lori Johnston.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Bain and Jerry Bain; two sisters, Syble Holder and Shirley Brien; and a stepson, Danny Brewer.
