Late goals stun Lady Lions

Posted

The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions and the visiting Bethel University Lady Wildcats fought for 81:12 in a scoreless draw. The Lady Lions then saw two goals cross in the final eight minutes to fall 2-0.
Freed-Hardeman (0-10-1, 0-2-0 MSC) survived an extended onslaught in the first half to set up Isabel Croke’s shot at 25:08. Despite the good strike, Bethel’s keeper made the save to keep the scores level. On the other side of the pitch, Ava Pierce mad three saves to keep the Wildcats off of the board.
Averaging 15.3 shots per game it was no surprise that Bethel (2-6-0, 1-0-0 MSC) unloaded 22 shots toward the FHU net in the second half. Six of those were on target and saved until the Wildcats got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 81:12. A second goal was scored in the 89th minute to put the match out of reach with the 2-0 final.
Up Next - The Lady Lions will hit the road for the first league match on the road with a trip of Georgetown College on October 3 with a 2 p.m. kickoff.

Wood scores third, Lady Lions fall to Eagles
With weather causing a relocation the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions battled the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Lady Eagles a few miles south of WBU’s campus in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Ellie Wood netted her third goal of the season, but FHU fell short in a 3-1 loss.
Freed-Hardeman (0-9-1) were on their heels to begin the match with Wiliams Baptist rattling off four corner kicks in the span of 30 seconds. The first shot on goal came at 9:06 with Ava Pierce getting the save. WBU kept pressure strong in the half by firing 14 shots toward the net. Pierce made five saves with the lone goal crossing at 25:51. Abby Schwarz’ corner in the 39th minute gave FHU momentum at the end of the frame with back-to-back attempts from Wood being kept out to keep the score at 1-0 in favor of the hosts.
The Williams Baptist (8-2-0) top striker completed a natural hat trick with two goals in the 54th minute after scoring the first-half goal. But FHU continued putting pressure on the Eagle defense before Isabel Croke found Wood to score the FHU goal. FHU pushed to score the two more needed to level the score with several shots coming including one that hit the post, but time ran out and FHU fell 3-1.
