Gayle Michael Cravens, 73, of Henderson, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held at Estes church of Christ from noon-3 p.m. Friday, June 5, with funeral services following at 3 p.m. In leu of flower, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, caregivers, hospice staff and friends who provided comfort, care and support during his illness. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that he is now healed, at peace and in the presence of his Savior.
Born on Dec. 21, 1953, in Danville, Ill., he lived a life marked by faith, dedication and love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, professor and colleague whose presence touched countless lives. Dec. 21 was a special day. Not only was it his birthday, but he also married the love of his life, Sandy Hardy. Together they built a life centered on family, faith and unwavering support for one another.
Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, faith and compassionate character. He was an active member of Estes church of Christ. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived and cared for others.
He spent the last 40 years at Freed-Hardeman as Director of Masters in Counseling program, Director of Doctoral of Behavioral Health Program and Professor. He also spent countless hours in his private counseling practice in Jackson for the last 30 years.
Family was everything to him. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Cravens; his children, James (Tracy) Cravens, Natalie (Chelsea) Cravens and Nicole (Justin) Cravens; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaylyn, Brylee, Bryn, Hadlee, Finlee and baby Reid, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tuck and Joan Cravens, and his brother, Warren Cravens.
