Hello to all from this little corner of the world. It was raining off and on Saturday, and the skies were a light gray.
It was stormy here Saturday and was supposed to be stormy Monday. The temperature was 74. God knows when to send rain. I saw some fields with irrigation systems, but most do not have any. I saw a corn field that was dependent on rain. Well, here it is. It has a beautiful start on its growth. James was bird sitting. The two little babies in the birdhouse on our deck are growing, and the daddy bird has been working his little wings off. The daddy leaves around 7:30 p.m., and James brings them inside the house where they remain safe in their birdhouse. He has gotten up every morning at 6 a.m. to put the birdhouse back outside for the daddy. Today, one has flown the coop, although it is not strong enough to fly high from predators. The other bird baby is trying to get out, but it fits just in James’ hand. He worries about them but is going to let nature take its course. We did our best to help. I pray they grow and return on a surprise summer.
This Sunday, June 15, is Father’s Day. Sonora Smart Dodd first proposed Father’s Day in 1909 to honor her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who had raised her and her five siblings after their mother’s death. The first Father’s Day celebration took place on June 10, 1910, in Spokane, Wash. Please remember your father on the day set aside for appreciation of him. There are single dads that are trying hard. There are dads who are away in the military; there are many reasons, good or bad, to remember this day. There are no perfect parents; that is a lesson in itself. If you can visit or call him, please do. He will remember it, and when he is gone, you will. I loved my daddy and miss him, but he was hard on us. He kept us in line, but we grew up good girls. We had chores and did them, which made us better adults in the long run. He worked hard as a carman on the GM&O RR from the time he was 16. My mother stayed home and took care of us. He could be called out in the middle of the night on train wrecks, and he always went! He was the cook for the men. I miss him, and I know I will see him again. Also, my husband James Ellis has been a wonderful dad. He has also worked hard and done whatever was needed for his family. Above all, LOVE your dad. Life is shorter than we think. Tell him you appreciate him. Everyone enjoys hearing that, but men do not pass around feelings like that very often.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
There was a horrific accident on Hwy. 100 and Hwy. 45 at the bridge last week as most know from Facebook and the local news. Please pray for those involved in the accident and the families. Thanks to all the firefighters and first responders who were there to do what they could to put out the huge fire and try and save life. God bless you all.
