New Friendship & Mifflin Community News

Posted

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. This article was written on Sunday, 1/18/26. The skies were a medium blue on Sunday, and the sun was shining with a slight breeze noted. The temperature was 30 degrees and felt like 24 degrees with wind chill factored in. The temperature on Sunday night was supposed to be 23 degrees, and Monday night was 16 with the day being 39 degrees. Then, we get a few days of warmer temperatures only to find the weekend chilly again. So goes the winter season. We are mainly seeing cardinals, black-hat chickadees and a few wrens.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones. Prayers are with you.
We have had someone helping with our sermons since Bro. Glenn retired. Bobby Russ has been helping us and our church. Friendship Baptist Church will be voting on Wednesday night to call him as interim pastor. He preached this morning on Sihon and Og from Numbers 21:21-22. The sermon was about how we can have victories through the things we go through and how God intervenes on our behalf as he did in the above skirmishes. God knows what is coming and prepares us. The trials make us stronger, and, in that respect, we can endure other trials coming and are able to help others remember what we have been through. 1. Victories encourage our walk with God. 2. Victories enhance warfare. Be faithful now, as God prepares us for future battles. 3. Victories elevate worship. Remember - skilled sailors are not made by smooth seas.
Monday, Jan. 19, was an observed holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who emphasized purpose, action, love and justice, urging people to live meaningfully by serving others, moving forward despite challenges and striving for positive change. “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
Happy birthday to Brenda Hudson, 1-19; Billy Priddy, 1-20; Arlene Hill, Nicki Bray and Jacoby Straut, 1-21; Walter Willis and Kenneth Williams, 1-23; and James Ellis, 1-24.
Prayer requests for Doug and Donna Bishop, Bobby Bray, Rachel Ellington, Carolyn Goff, Darren Hatch, Danny Hodges, Pat Nobles Jones, Julia Parchman, Pam Priddy, James Reddin, Anita Rhodes, Nona Seaton, Kathy Seals, Milt and Cheryl Tobey and Mike Young. Also, remember our first responders, military, firefighters and law enforcement officers.
Many are praying for God to heal this land, but I think He’s still waiting for people to humble themselves, repent, and turn from their wicked ways.
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
