New Friendship & Mifflin Community News

Posted

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. We woke up to pouring rain on Sunday morning. The rain began Saturday afternoon and became heavier as the night continued. We received approximately two inches of rain, and more is expected during this week. The temperature Sunday morning at around 7 a.m. was 54 degrees. Next weekend, the forecast is for cooler temperatures. Well, we are beginning the month of November, and the wet and cloudy season has begun. How many think we will see 15 days of rain since we had rain on the first of the month? Is the old tale 15 days straight or 15 days during the month? Stay safe and warm. I hope those that use wood are prepared for chilly temperatures. We burned wood for two years with an Ashley heater. I do not have a clue how much wood is nowadays. Enjoy this month as they are flying by.
We enjoyed our great-granddaughter’s birthday Sunday. Laiken is six years old now. She has begun kindergarten and enjoys it. Of course, we think she is very smart and thoughtful. She has made some friends at school and seems more settled since starting school. I guess learning with other children and a teacher’s rules helps most children settle into the classroom. I just see a difference. I am very glad she is a happy child. Thanks to all who attended her party.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones. It may seem at times you suffer alone, but you never know how many are praying for you and your situation. Please know that others do care and will be praying for you during your grief.
There are five sweet, precious dogs at Friendship Baptist Church. One large, white, long-haired dog has a green collar. Who does this belong to? It appears these dogs and pups are on their own. Kind people at the church and in the community are trying to keep them fed. The good thing is that they all look healthy. They are friendly and looking for affection. SAD! I am an animal lover, and this is uncalled for! I know there is a female in the bunch, and if she is not fixed, there will be more. Unfair to her! Why can we not have an animal shelter for the county? Lexington has recently gotten one. Why not us?
James had his foot surgery and is on the mend. He will have to wear a boot for four to six weeks. Hopefully, we will end the year healthy and no more surgeries.
Happy birthday to Charles Dyer, 11-2, and Doug Bishop, 11-7.

I’d truly appreciate any news. People from here and those that have moved from our area, still want to keep in touch through the newspaper and are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
