We are having a great week of learning here at East Chester Elementary School. So much learning is taking place! On Friday, we will be reading books to help us to remember Habit Five: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. If you see an East Chester student, ask them what they know about this habit.
In kindergarten those little learners are working hard! The students are continuing to learn about blends and diagraphs. This week, they are working on sh, ch, th and wh. In math those little learners are continuing their unit on teen numbers by learning about the number 13. The students are still working on their winter unit. This week, they will learn about hibernation. On Monday, our kindergarteners celebrated 100 days of school. They were spies looking for missing 100. I sure hope they found him!
First graders are making great strides! The students are learning about change from the past/present/future with schools, clothes and transportation. In math the students are learning about tens and ones.
In second grade students are learning so many new things! The students are learning about the world of ancient Asians. They will be looking at how the ancient Asians have influenced our world today. The students will look at their writing system, calligraphy and the invention of paper. In math the students are using mental math to add and subtract 10 or 100 to any number. Second graders will be celebrating the Chinese New Year on Jan. 28 to tie into their unit on Asia.
Third graders are making us so proud with all of their hard work! The students are continuing to read about Colonial America. They are learning about the different colonies. In math the students are learning all about fractions! This week, they are learning how to show fractions on a number line.
Parent-Teacher Conference forms were sent home last week. Be sure to let your child’s teacher know if you would like a conference time!
As always, it is a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School!
