We are having another wonderful week of learning here at East Chester Elementary School! Our school-wide reading of the book, “The World According to Humphrey” by Betty Birney, is underway. The students have a calendar outlining which pages to read each day. We are all enjoying reading about Humphrey and his adventures in Room 26 at Longfellow School. If you see an East Chester student, be sure to ask them what Humprey has been doing!
Kindergarteners are moving right along! This week, the students are beginning their unit on R-controlled vowels such as ar, er, ir, or and ur. In math they are continuing their study of teen numbers. This week’s number is 15. The students are also beginning to count to 100 by 5s. This week, the students begin learning about Tennessee symbols.
In first grade the students are working hard! The students are learning about the layers of the earth. They are learning about the crust, mantle, inner core and outer core. In math they are continuing to learn about 10s and ones.
Second grade is bringing so many new things to learn! The students are beginning their study of ancient Greece. This will help as they learn about the Olympics! In math students are continuing to add and subtract three-digit numbers. This week they are focusing on solving using different strategies.
Third graders are learning and growing more and more each day! The students are continuing their unit about Colonial America. This week, the students are reading about the Quakers and the Puritans. In math the students are continuing to learn about fractions! This week, they are reviewing equivalent fractions.
Just a reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences are virtual again this time. If you signed up for a phone or Google Meet conference, be on the lookout for a phone call or meeting at your scheduled time! Also, no school on Feb. 18 or Feb. 21. Students will return to school on Feb. 22.
As always, it is a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School.
