East Chester’s Abigail Hardin has reached ONE MILLION words in Accelerated Reader. She a third grade student in Mrs. Stacey Pruett’s class and the daughter of Perry and Alba Hardin.

We hope you had a wonderful weekend! It is hard to believe January is almost over, and we are moving into February! The class with the most participation at the Blood Drive on Tuesday, Jan. 31, will win a pizza party, and the student with the most donors will win a $20 gift certificate to a place of their choice! How fun! Hope you were able to come out and save a life!
There are so many wonderful things happening at East Chester. On Friday, first grade led our Leader in Me Assembly and did a wonderful job! We are quickly approaching Parent Teacher conferences scheduled from 5-8 p.m. for Friday, Feb. 16. Information should be sent home soon! There is no school on Friday, Feb. 17, as well as Monday, Feb. 20, (Presidents’ Day). Third grade is preparing a Patriotic program for Tuesday, Feb. 21. It will be at Williams Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. at Chester County Middle School. Spring pictures are scheduled for Feb. 22-23. Now, let’s take a look at what each grade is up to!
In kindergarten they will work on middle sounds/vowels. In math they will focus on the number 14 and breaking teens into a 10 and some ones. In science they will study animals that live underground and focus on groundhogs. Sounds like they are having fun and working hard!
In first grade they are still reading stories from “The Green Fern Zoo.” They have discussed mandrills, chimps, things that swim, things with wings and termites. They are learning about contractions, compound words and two-syllable words. During their knowledge time they are reading about different habitats. They are also talking about how certain plants and animals are able to adapt to live in their habitats. They are having a really fun time! In math they are continuing to work on subtracting groups of 10 from a two-digit number. They will begin working on adding three one-digit numbers and missing addends soon.
In second grade they will continue to work on grammar skills as well as vowel teams and their sounds. In math they will conclude working with graphs. We will begin adding three and four 2-digit numbers. They are still discussing the War of 1812. In science they will continue exploring force, motion and energy and its effects on everyday life.
In third grade they will read “Fish: Fins and Gills.” They will also read about amphibians. They will continue learning how to compare and contrast two texts on the same topic. They will also continue learning about text features and how they help understand a text. They will learn to form and use singular and plural nouns. In math they will write multiplication and division math stories and begin regions and areas. In social studies they will begin to learn the location of the 50 states.

Briella Gott has also reached ONE MILLION words in Accelerated Reader. She is a third grader in Mrs. Stacey Pruett’s class and the daughter of Jared and Sasha Gott.
