We had another great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear what amazing rigorous lessons we have been learning!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week. Students are continuing to work on reading words with digraphs and blends, sentence writing, reading sentences from our readers, counting to 100 by ones and 10s, addition fluency and decomposing numbers into 10 and some ones. Report cards go home on March 16. Spring pictures will be made on March 23, and spring break is coming up on March 27-31.
We had a great week of learning in first grade. We finished learning about geology and paleontology. Then, we began learning about animals and their habitat. In reading skills we continued reading stories in “Green Fern Zoo,” reviewed r-controlled words, read and sorted words with -ed such as walked, sounded and waved, reviewed adjectives and began a descriptive writing about grapes or chips using our five senses planning guide. In writing we finished up our Dr. Seuss themed writings. In math we began learning about tally charts and picture graphs. We are so excited about our field trip next week.
In second grade we have been ‘showing what we know’ in ELA and Math with our Mastery Connect Assessment. Since we are ready for a little brain break, we will be going to see a ballet production of “Snow White” this Friday, which should be very exciting! Only one more week of school until spring break, but we will still be learning and preparing for our big move to third grade. We can not stop yet!
In third grade this week, we finished our unit on time and are starting mass and volume. In reading we are continuing to learn about ecology. We have completed our final Benchmark for the year. We are so excited for our field trip on Friday. We can not wait to see “Snow White” at the Civic Center.
Our first student spotlight of the week goes to Easton Taylor, whose favorite food is pizza and favorite book is “Magic Treehouse.” Our second student spotlight of the week goes to Jadalyn Sloan, whose favorite food is watermelon and favorite book is “Library of Doom.” We are proud to have these students shine brightly at our school!
