It was a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we worked hard in preparation of TCAP next week and also saw Freed-Hardeman University’s Makin’ Music as a school!
Kindergarteners wrote short narratives and used all types of punctuation. We read short stories and answered questions about what we read. In math we decomposed numbers to 10.
First graders continued to enjoy their study of Fairy Tales. So far they have heard “Sleeping Beauty” and “Rumpelstiltskin.” They learned that “tale” is another word for “story” and that many fairy tales were collected a very long time ago by two brothers named Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. They are often called the Brothers Grimm. The brothers were from Germany, and many of the stories that we now know as fairy tales had been told orally for many years in their country and in other countries, too. The brothers decided to write the stories down and make a book out of them. The boys and girls continued to work on their opinion writing about their favorite candy. Math involved 10s and ones. Our first graders absolutely loved Makin’ Music and hope to go back again next year!
In second grade we have had a calm week since we are focusing on TCAP testing. Last week, we went to FHU to watch the students present their songs and choreography in “Makin’ Music.” They were awesome, and we had a great time! Also, last Thursday, second and third graders got to throw water balloons at Mr. Buckley and Ms. Robin to celebrate how well we had done on our Mastery Connect testing. We hope we can show our BEST on TCAP this week so that we can soon SLIME our Awesome Principal (and maybe our Ms. Rockin’ Robin!) We are looking forward to Field Day on May 5 and Awards Day on May 19, but until then, we will still be learning and working to be READY for third grade!
Third grade worked hard last week to get ready for our testing that began on Monday. Our students have all the tools they will need to be successful and confident test takers. They are rocking third grade. Our highlight for last week (and maybe the whole year) was Makin’ Music that we were allowed to be a part of. A big thank you to Freed-Hardeman University for inviting our students to this experience. We all had an amazing time. The costumes, music and college students were wonderful. After lunch, our second and third graders earned the right to water balloon Mr. Buckley and Mrs. Robin. We have had a fabulous week!
