Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Goodbye, April! Monday was the first day of May, which is known as May Day. What is May Day? The Old Farmers almanac says May Day celebrates the return of spring and all things new. Have you heard of dancing around the Maypole on May? It is a tradition where you take a pole and attach colorful ribbons, and each person takes one and dances around the pole covering it with beautiful colors. I remember my kids doing this in school many, many years ago.
Ellna Patterson Roland hosted a birthday party at her home Friday, April 28, for her sister Ann Morris of Bolivar and brother-in-law Glen Smith of Memphis. Others that attended included Bob Morris, Barbara Smith, Valerie Smith, Janice and Johnny Schultz and myself. We all enjoyed the good food and fellowship and ended the party with delicious coconut cake made by Barbara.
Lonnie Morton of Memphis called today to let me know he had been in the hospital and is now recovering at home after surgery. Prayers and get well wishes go out to Lonnie.
I visited a sweet lady this afternoon, Ladelle Clark. I had a wonderful visit; she is such a sweet lady. We reminisced about years gone by and our husbands, Ronnie and James. It sure made my day.
The community sends Happy Birthday wishes to all those celebrating May birthdays, including Vickie Beshires (5/4), JoAnn Clayton (5/17) and Tonya Clayton (5/30). Wishing you all a blessed day on your special day! Happy Anniversary to Phillip and Judy Cranford on May 1. Hope you two had a nice walk down memory lane on your married years!
Last week, in Honor of Mother’s Day, I asked readers to share a favorite memory of their mothers which could be a short story, a favorite recipe, something funny or anything you would just like to share about your mother. I am disappointed that I did not receive any phone calls. I am hoping I will hear from someone this week. Please call and share with me.
May 8-12 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Shout out to all the teachers for their hard work and dedication to our children. They certainly make a difference in a child’s life.
Please remember in prayer Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell, Donna Lynch and Lonnie Morton. Continue to pray for each other, our country and our world. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me. I do not like to add/remove a name without permission.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for a special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
Without your news, it is difficult to write this article. Please call me with tidbits and news at 989-3315. You can share vacations, birthdays, anniversaries, memories, and much more. I look forward to hearing from you.
Make it a great week.
