I have lots of festive news and upcoming events to share this week. Silerton Baptist Church hosted a hayride and a hotdog roast with s’mores on Saturday, Nov. 5. There was a good turnout of all ages. Passengers loaded on two trailers and started their ride to the big rock road. The moon was spectacular out on the wooded drive. Upon returning to church, Bobby Fry had a campfire blazing. Everyone got busy roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. S’mores made for a happy ending to a wonderful night with friends and family.
Gwen Cox shared that Piney Grove Baptist Church had a community harvest festival meal Oct. 29. All enjoyed stew and chili with hot dogs, chips and deserts. A hog calling contest gave many a good laugh. They also had a pumpkin carving contest, a costume contest, a scavenger hunt, children’s games and a trunk or treat. A wonderful time was had by all and many memories were made.
Mark your calendars! Silerton Baptist church will be hosting a potluck meal at noon Sunday, Nov. 20 for a pre-Thanksgiving meal. Make plans to come and bring a friend with you.
Piney Grove will have a Thanksgiving meal at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20.
Ten Silerton gentlemen were asked what they are most thankful for this year. Larry Lambert said he was most thankful to be alive. Larry had several Health issues that called for surgery ending in ICU for several days this year. Not only is Larry thankful for his life so are his family and friends. Bobby Naylor expresses the same view as Larry. Bobby states that he is “83 and is thankful every day for being alive.” Grady Stack also stated the same thankfulness for life and health. Bill Mayfield has a thankful heart for being able to return home to Silerton and farm. Lee Stack is most thankful he knows Jesus, has his wife Frances and has the family he belongs to. Alfred Ewing is thankful for his salvation, his wife and family, his country and its freedoms and his job. Frankie Lambert is very thankful for this season about families coming together for fellowship and a meal. Charlie Crouthers (pastor of Silerton Baptist Church) is thankful for family and friends. Kevin Beshires is very thankful for his family and to be a dad. Willard Beshires is thankful for his grandchildren.
