Origami and atlatls: Spend the day at Chickasaw

Chickasaw State Park regularly provides fun informational, hands-on activities geared toward kids of all ages. Events scheduled for the upcoming weekend include the following:
Friday, August 1
Awesome Atlatl – 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., Meet at the Archery Field to learn the history behind the ancient atlatl and how to throw it. Program is free but registration is required. Participants must be 12 years or older. Registration ends at noon July 31.
Corn Husk Dolls – 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Dive into the lives of the early settlers and learn how to make dolls from natural materials. This is a great way to mix history with the present. Registration is required; cost is $2. Registration ends at noon July 31.
Birds of Prey Lunch – 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Watch the birds of prey eat lunch at the Aviary near the park office. Registration is not required. This is a rain-or-shine program.
Animal Origami – 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Meet at the Camp Store to make some origami of animals you can see around the park. Choose from a rabbit, a butterfly or a crow. Registration is required; costs is $1. Registration ends at noon Aug. 1.
