Peggy Garner Whitman, 82, of Henderson passed away July 6, 2023, at Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were 4 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Glenn Harris and Iran Smith officiating. Burial followed at Old Friendship Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 2-4 p.m. service time on Saturday.
She was born Aug. 25, 1940 in Chester County in the Hickory Corner Community, the daughter of the late Joe Clifford and Mary L.E. Burkhead Garner. She attended school at Hickory Corner and married Lonnie Whitman in 1956. They made their home in the Old Friendship Community.
She had worked in some of the local factories and drove a Chester County school bus for 30 years.
Her family raised horses in the Old Friendship Community. She enjoyed cooking for family and community. She was a member of the Old Friendship Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Craig (Janice) Whitman of Henderson; one daughter, Lona (Shawn) Whitman Bolton of Henderson; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alfred (Jo Ellen) Garner of Finger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonnie Odell Whitman (2016); a son, Darrel Whitman (2000); and two sisters, Jessie Lee Rowland and Ann Morrison.
