Born on Aug. 28, 1936, in Purdy, to the late Wallace Sr. and Annie Lavada Moten Hurst, she learned early the value of hard work, kindness and faith in God. She married her beloved husband, Cecil Croom on May 9, 1956. To this union, three sons were born, Cecil Rayburn, Marvin and Phillip Croom. Together, they built a Christ-centered home filled with warmth, love, singing, laughter and prayer. They cherished their life together for the next 64 years until Cecil departed this life on May 22, 2020.
As a dedicated homemaker, she viewed her house as a sanctuary. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, her listening ear a source of peace and her hands were rarely still as she served her family with joy. She enjoyed her flowers, cooking and canning and being a helpmate to her husband. She lived out the virtues of Proverbs 31, acting with wisdom, kindness and strength. Her family was her greatest earthly treasure. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, her life was a living testament to her deep Christian faith and boundless love for her family. Sis. Reba was a faithful member of the Cool Springs Baptist Church until her health failed. She prayed fervently for her three children; five grandchildren, Raven (Cole) Gardener, Phillip Justin “PJ” (deceased), Corrie Robinson, Wesley Croom and Chantler (Kelcey) Croom; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Cecil Rayburn (Harvette) and Marvin (Renee) of Henderson; daughter-in-law, Laura (Phillip) Croom of Murry, Ky.; and four sisters, Wheaty Martin, Agnus Hurst of Purdy, Marsue Irwin, Nancy (Willie) Nix of Savannah.
She was preceded in death by her son, Phillip, and two sisters and three brothers, the late Josie Givens, Versie Rozefort, Wallace Hurst, Jr., Troy Hurst and George Hurst.
