The Chester County Board of Education met at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17. All members of the board were present. Chester County High School Teacher, Mike Showers, was honored for his service on the Curriculum team for the ACT with the educational consortium, Comprehensive Educational Resources.
Monique Jones presented the Board with some concerns involving Chester County PreK. She expressed concerns that “environmental demands have been extremely high.” This is due to an influx of children within the blended model that the PreK observes. This model has 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds all within one classroom. The vast difference in maturity of the children due to age and the increasing demands of children with more specialized needs has put a heightened sense of stress and responsibility on the faculty of the PreK. Jones encouraged a re-examination of the current structure of the PreK in order to serve the children and teachers more efficiently. The board expressed sympathy with Jones, but they determined that there was little that they could do. They encouraged Jones and any others with concerns to write to our state representatives to encourage the passage of legislation that would assist in the changes needed to help the local PreK.
In other updates, the Chester County High School Vocational Center will have an open house from 5:50 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb 26.
The school food services were able to provide over 23,060 warm meals for those affected by the recent ice storm.
