The Chester County High School Teacher of the month for August is Mike Showers. Coach Mike Showers is a man of many talents at school. He teaches various college-level math courses, coaches the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams, runs the tech team, and helps with technology problems at the school. Coach Showers has a loaded schedule, from teaching lectures to hosting practices to recording football games. He plays an active, well-rounded role at Chester County High School. Teachers, students, and players alike appreciate the work he puts in around the school daily.
Ben Clayton, a senior at Chester County, has very positive feelings about Coach Showers as a teacher and mentor. He believes that Coach Showers does not just affect students on an intellectual level but also influences them in their everyday lives. He said, “Having Coach Showers as a teacher has been awesome! He has taught me so much about math but also a lot about life. He is a good leader with great memory tricks and many tips to help students learn and understand math.”
Cecily Davis, senior and captain of the tennis team, said, “Coach Showers truly makes the Chester County tennis team feel like a family. He loves every single player on our team, both on and off the court, and never fails to show it. His guidance has helped me develop a strong work ethic that I apply to other areas of my life, like school and personal goals. I’m beyond grateful for his mentorship and his impact on me and my teammates.”
Teaching is important. Ensuring that your students learn the subject matter is a vital part of a teacher’s job, but Coach Showers continues to go above and beyond the typical role of a teacher. He leads by example and guides his students to succeed not only in school but also in life.
Mike Showers is an extraordinary teacher, coach, and mentor for his students. He exemplifies Chester County High School’s motto, “Respect, Trust, and Honor.” We are very grateful for all he does.
