Silerton had a trash pick-up day this past Saturday, March 22. Richard and Rita Crowley, Frankie and Mary Lynn Lambert, Gail Mayfield, Bobby Naylor and Marcus and Jamie Fry met at the park, assigned themselves areas and collected 11 large bags of trash. Much more could have been picked up, but the group hopes it has made an impact. The countryside’s trash problem could easily be cut in half if people were mindful of what can blow out of their pickup beds.
On March 13, the Silerton News column made mention of the relatively large number of brush fires the local fire departments have had to deal with. On the same day the Chester County Independent (p. 3A) had a similar article voicing concern over the numerous brush fires, especially during times of “low humidity, gusty winds and warmer weather.” It seems all the fires were “intentionally set.” In talking with the older residents of the area, many feel that the time for another really large fire is approaching, especially if the conditions are ripe. We all need to be aware and cautious.

Gail Mayfield has arranged a trip/tour of Old Center Cemetery at 3 p.m. March 27. Those interested please meet at Silerton Baptist Church just after Chair Yoga is finished.
Jamie and Marcus paid Vonda Siler a visit at her assisted living apartment in Jackson on March 19. She enjoyed talking about memories and of her late husband Bill Siler.

On March 20, Frankie Lambert and Marcus X. Fry visited Grady Stack while he was camping at Pickwick Dam. We all took a hike, and Grady gave us an informative tour of the dam’s lower side. Most of the gates were open letting muddy water rush through. Ricky and Jennifer Wilson traveled to Missouri to take their daughter Dixie back to school after her spring break. Sherry Wilson is hospitalized in Southhaven, Miss. He is also suffering from fractured ribs. Please remember him in your prayers.

On April 12, Silerton Baptist Church is organizing a group trip to the Memphis Zoo. If interested, please ask any church member for information and sign up ASAP.
