Silerton was thankfully spared any serious damage from the past storms. We send our prayers to our neighbors in the surrounding communities that have been so badly afflicted and hope for their speedy recovery. One of our rain gauges here totaled 15.5 inches of rain since the storms came in on Wednesday.
On April 1, Vicki Rush, Barry Siler and Marcus X. Fry met with James Bright, Chester County Historian, in Henderson. Mr. Bright very generously offered his advice on how to proceed towards getting Silerton its long overdue Historical Marker. Information about the historical marker will be posted as our progress unfolds.
Last Sunday, Silerton Baptist Church had a delicious fellowship meal. Many thanks to the ladies who made it possible.
This Sunday, a happy 38th wedding anniversary was sung to Annette and Ronnie Simer at Silerton Baptist Church. Annette is the church pianist/vocalist.
Church member Dawn Boykin, along with 10 friends, took a Caribbean cruise for spring break. Highlights included a stop at Grand Turk Island where she saw their famous wild donkeys and huge flocks of pink flamingos taking flight. A stop was had at Amber Cove, Dominican Republic, where Dawn enjoyed palm tree shaded beaches. At Nassau, Bahamas, Dawn enjoyed a walk through the local market and beach. She remarked about the very colorful locals, hawking and plying their various skills and wares.
On a less exciting note, Marcus saved a rather large turtle, at least 12 inches from the perils of Hwy. 125, though I am sure the turtle was pleased at being spared the excitement of being run over. This is Marcus’s fourth turtle save since he moved here. Mike Alexander is an esteemed turtle rescuer and has many a save to his name.
This past Friday, Jamie and Marcus Fry went to Memphis for the Pompeii exhibit at the Graceland Exhibition Center that has been there for several months. It ends this month. It was a nice exhibition, not overly large but satisfying. Marcus was a bit surprised at how often the name “Marcus” came up when the names of individuals were mentioned or the names of the original owners of various inscribed artifacts, etc. It even comes up in some of the graffiti of the time, e.g., “Marcus loves Julia.” Jamie knows Marcus never dated a Julia.
Last call for the Silerton Baptist Church sponsored visit to the Memphis Zoo on Saturday, April 12. Those interested need to meet at 7:30 a.m. at the church parking lot. The visit to the zoo should last until 1:30-2 p.m.
