The theme at this past Sunday’s service at Silerton Baptist Church was how we so often take the blessed, good things in life for granted. A more than appropriate theme for this time of the year. Annette Simer treated the membership with a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace.” After the service, the church’s traditional delicious Thanksgiving meal was served. As always, many thanks to all those who made it happen. Next Sunday, the church’s Christmas Tree will be decorated.
Prayers and sympathy to the family of Virginia Morris Vales Hatch. Virginia passed away on Nov. 21 at the age of 90. Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 26 followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar.
While Joe Stack recuperates from surgery, which went well, Marcus Fry has very graciously taken upon himself to feed Joe’s menagerie. Needless to say, it has been an educational and eye-opening experience in the ways of animal husbandry and farm life. The collection consists of a noble, steadfast, handsome dog, who is always happy to see me, and several cats, including an amiable polydactyl cat and a very spoiled, thoroughly annoying, whiney, young orange tabby. Two small hens also make their presence known now and then. The stars of the show are, of course, the 30 plus goats. It is the goats that keep Marcus on his toes, the delightful creatures that they are. Marcus says delightful in order to honor the old adage that if you can’t say nothing nice then don’t say anything.
The goats all have their own very distinct personalities, and many remind Marcus of the fine people he has met over the years in Silerton. The big one, the alpha, has been named Bro. Charlie; then there is a Butch Ross, a Robert Fry, certainly a Joe Seavers, a Bobby Naylor (that one was easy to name), a Grady Stack, a Mike Alexander, a Tim James, a Frankie Lambert, etc., etc. The lady goats have also been named, but Marcus will not reveal any names as to avoid getting into any real trouble.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
