Silerton Baptist Church had a busy Sunday service. Happy anniversary was sung to Butch and Debby Ross for their 50th wedding anniversary, a milestone indeed for any endeavor. Happy birthdays were sung to Annette Simer and Judy Dillard. The congregation was treated to a hymn sung by Annette Simer and Rita Stokes. A “Pounding” will be held next Sunday after service for the recently married Rachel and Logan Vann. “A Pounding (or ‘pantry shower’) is a traditional Southern wedding and housewarming custom where guests bring non-perishable kitchen staples—historically sold by the pound, like a pound of flour, sugar, butter, or coffee—to stock the newlyweds’ pantry” (https://www.thefarmwife.com site.). One wonders if Europe has a “Kilograming,” which would fill up a pantry a good deal fuller. Next Sunday, there will also be a meeting in preparation for this summer’s VBS at Silerton Baptist.
Jamie Fry returned from visiting her father in Amarillo, Texas, this past week. On the way there, she visited her children and nieces in the Oklahoma City area. On the way back, her son William followed her back to Silerton for an extended vacation at the Fry farm.
