Silerton Baptist Church announced that Vacation Bible School (VBS) will run from July 31 to Aug. 2. Debby Ross thanked Porters Creek Baptist Church for their very generous and large donation of VBS learning materials. The program’s theme will be Emerald Crossing – an Irish Adventure through Psalm 23, focusing on bringing hope to an anxious generation, as kids learn about the life of David while answering the question, “Is there a God who cares?”
This past Sunday, the family and friends of Debby and Butch Ross formally celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. It is safe to say that 50 years of matrimony puts Debby and Butch into an elite status. A sumptuous feast of fruit, meats and cheese was held in the fellowship hall, which was nearly filled to capacity. A grand time was had by all.
Also, Anita and Larry Lambert are well into elite matrimonial status as they just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They live in the Finger area, and Larry was raised in Silerton along with a whole mess of other Lamberts.
Continuing a matrimonial theme, Marcus and Jamie Fry are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter Jillian Kay to Logun Gill of Oklahoma. Logun proposed to Jill this past week at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. Jill joined Logun’s family on a week-long vacation trip to Japan. They are flying back home this Monday and will start planning their wedding. Mr. Fry was hoping they would get a Shinto priest and have the wedding done then and there, but on second thought, a church wedding in the U.S. would be good, too.
As the Frys venture forth in exploring Hardeman County and the surrounding area, they made the acquaintance of Carlos Schmidt, who kindly gave the Frys a tour of Keestone Academy, of which Carlos is the proprietor. Keestone is an early education/childcare facility in Henderson/Chester County, serving infants six weeks old through Pre-K. Along with after school care (K-fifth grade). It was a joy seeing all the young children being taught, at play or taking a nap. As the Frys get older, they can not be taught much more, do not play like they used to, but can still nap with the best of them.
On a final note, at his father’s behest, William Fry, son of Jamie and Marcus Fry, as he ends his month-long vacation at the Fry farm was asked to compose a little reflection of his time here. It is hoped that it is not found to be too saccharine. “There is a place among the pines, safe from the maw of the beastly city, where the air roars with the symphony of silence and birdsong. Where the blood and sweat of generations past and present fertilize the crop of continuance. Where the fireflies dance the night away, while the toads congregate for midnight services. Where the turtles take pilgrimage to their promised land. Where never a bad meal is had. There are many words in the human language to describe such a place: Eden, Elysium, Shangri-La, Valhalla… Paradise. But the folks around here call it Silerton.”
