Looks like we have somewhat of a music themed issue this week. To begin with, the Silerton City Council met on Aug. 25, and plans are still going forward to have a concert in the park to be titled “Silerton Sunset Symphony.” Details are still being worked out, and we will keep you posted. The Council will be contacting Representative Shaw for new flags for the city hall flagpole.
Silerton Baptist Church sang happy birthday to three adorable little girls gracing our church: Lillian, Sadie and Shiloh. Happy anniversary was sung to Mike and Trish Alexander. Pastor Louie Gibson (former pastor of Silerton Baptist Church) and his wife Vivian gave a heartfelt testimony of the volunteer work done at Country View Estates, an assisted living facility located in Toone. The needs of the residents there are many, and Pastor Gibson is thankful for what the community can provide. Thank you to all the ladies who made the Fifth Sunday Fellowship meal such a fun time and a great way to catch up on everything.
Jason Vales, the son of our very own Carolyn Kramer, performed a solo guitar concert as the opening act at the Bolivar “Music on the Square” concert this past Friday, Aug. 28. He sang a variety of songs and made playing the guitar look easy. Carolyn says he has been playing the instrument since he was seven or eight years old.
Brandon Seavers, the son of our very own Joe Seavers, was recently written up by the “We Are Memphis” news site as part of Memphis’ “901 Day Celebration.” Brandon is the co-founder of Memphis Record Pressing, one of North America’s largest vinyl record pressing plants and a major player in the Memphis and national music scene.
Silerton, of course, is blessed with music nearly every night when the crickets, cicadas, myriad other insects and lunatic birds get going. Then, we have the coyotes with their haunting sounds that can raise the hair on your back. If you happen to live by a creek or pond, nothing beats the raucous, cacophony of the frogs/toads when they get at it. From a distance, when they get to calling to each other and start splashing into the water, you can swear there are some teenagers having some sort of pool party, and you wonder what type of parents are letting them stay out so late. Turtles are good; they keep quiet and go to bed in their shell.
