Donna Elise Chandler Scobey was laid to rest at Silerton Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 18. Donna is the sister of our Carolyn Kramer and Judy Dillard and aunt to our Debbie Dillard. Donna departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at her home in Friendship.
A reminder that the animated movie “David” will be shown at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Silerton Baptist Church. Drinks and popcorn will be provided.
Continued prayers please for Richard Lambert as he continues to struggle with health issues.
This past Tuesday, the Stack family had a celebratory dinner/family mini-reunion for Jacie Reagan to honor her visit from Michigan. About 30 aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., gathered at the fellowship hall at Silerton Baptist Church for a meal, conversation and pictures. Some of the most deliciously decadent and potent homemade vanilla ice cream ever made was served, courtesy of Steve Emerson. The day after, Jacie was put to work on cleaning out the well pump at Joe Stack’s place. There is truly never a free meal served in Silerton. It will be worked out of you one way or another.
The usual contingent from Silerton attended the Finger Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry on Saturday, Sept. 19. This was the last fish fry for the year.
Larry Lambert’s children bought Larry tickets for Father’s Day to a baseball game in Chicago, so Larry and his wife Anita could enjoy a game at Wrigley Field, something Larry has always wanted to do. First stop was a chocolate factory with shapes you can hardly imagine, including deviled eggs and a set of false teeth. Larry and Anita stayed the first day in Elizabethtown then overnighted in the historical Rose Hotel. They ventured on to an Ohio River Airbnb and visited Cave Rock. The first thing they did in Chicago was ride the subway. They first ate at Gino’s pizza, then walked to Willis Tower (Sears Tower) and took 103 floors to the Skydeck and stood on “The Ledge.” Later, the Lamberts had a Portillo’s Italian Beef sandwich, then walked to Navy Pier and rode the Big Wheel. Surprisingly, they had to buy hoodies because of the cold weather. They also had a meal at Wu’s Korean, which was very good, and rode the train to Wrigley Field. They had a great time watching the game. Anita was the only Cub’s fan, and they won.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the Silerton City Council will sponsor a “Silerton Sunset Symphony” at the city park featuring live music from “Small Town News.” Please bring your favorite foods, drinks, chairs and blankets. Admission is free for all ages to this family-friendly, alcohol-free event. Come celebrate the arrival of fall with your community.
