This past Friday, Carolyn and Bob Kramer had a house party with several relatives and friends. This get-together also served as an impromptu reunion of one of the last graduating classes from the old Silerton school. A delicious meal featuring barbecue was had outdoors in absolutely perfect weather. Entertainment was provided by Carolyn’s son Jason Vales, who sang and played acoustic guitar. Further entertainment was provided by two dueling hummingbirds chasing each other. Guests were also treated to the inaugural lighting of a new fire pit installed by Bob.
The Simer family held a family reunion at Silerton Baptist Church this past Saturday. Forty-seven attended, ranging in age from 81 years to one year. The furthest relative came from Illinois. In total, five generations were represented.
Saturday evening the Frys attended the Jackson Symphony’s Starlight outdoor concert at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. This free concert is a much looked forward to annual event for West Tennessee music lovers. A mix of classical, patriotic and popular pieces were played. This concert was especially notable for celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday. There are some families that make attending this concert a tradition, who come early to stake out their plot and take the art of having a picnic to very impressive and sumptuous levels. The Frys were happily content with their simple, hearty fare of cheddar/pickle sandwiches and potato chips. The playing of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture at the end is another tradition, and one never fails to be startled by the first cannon shot.
This Sunday Silerton Baptist Church celebrated some wedding anniversaries: Guillermina and Kevin Tidwell at 20 years and Trudy and Joe Stack at a whopping 42 years. Jennifer and Jason Howell also celebrated nine years of marriage and are newly minted grandparents. Prayers are kindly asked for Wanda and Bob Fry, Mary Lynn Lambert, Donna Majors, Joe Seavers, Grady Stack and any others needing them.
Please keep an ear out for updates on Silerton’s Sunset Symphony from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the city park. “Small Town News” will be performing. There is a chance of welcomed rain that day, and we will try and get the word out if there is a need to postpone.
