Silerton Baptist Church announced that the Hardeman County Baptist Association will be having their Night of Worship at First Baptist Church in Bolivar at 6 p.m. Oct. 18. A contingent of Silerton children will be part of the worship services. The Oct. 17 hayride will start at 4 p.m. followed by a bonfire, hotdogs and smores. Happy birthday was sung for Ramsey Naylor, who turned 11, and also for Jeanie Crouthers, pastor Charlie’s wife. As we all know, it is the pastor’s wife who makes or breaks a ministry, so we all hope she had an exceptionally happy birthday.
Prayers please for the Kramer family who just lost Ron, Bob Kramer’s brother, and prayers for Will Thompson, brother to Gwen Galloway, as he undergoes medical treatment. Prayers also for the Cook (Wanda and son Allen) family. Greg Diffee requests prayers for wife Tresha, mother Margaret Morris and mother-in-law Janice Newberry.
On Saturday, the Frys took a daytrip to Grand Junction to visit the last standing train depot in Hardeman County, which is in the process of restoration. The Frys met the fine people in charge of the restoration and received a tour. Thomas Edison as a young man worked the telegraph at the depot. The counter and operating shelf for the telegraph key was still there, and one could imagine the young Thomas Edison manning it. Afterwards, the Frys walked over to the old cotton gin where a craft fair was held and had a fried apple pie. A side trip was then taken to Middleton to visit the J.P. Shelly & Sons hardware store, a rather large, old fashioned, well stocked hardware store that should be visited by all those enamored with hardware.
It is good to see the harvesting of the fields going on. It is always a sign of our continuance and thanksgiving.
