Born Jan. 11, 1972, in Montgomery County, Texas, to Tommy Ray Smith Sr. and Eunice Marie Collins Smith, he built a life defined by a relentless work ethic, a deep love for his family and a passion for the outdoors.
A master craftsman by trade, he spent his life as a successful structural steel fabricator and erector. His skill and dedication can be seen in the multitude of steel monuments and buildings he left behind all over the Mid-South. He truly loved hard work and took immense pride in his profession.
Outside of work, he was happiest in nature. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting of all sorts with a particular passion for duck hunting and took great pride in raising champion Labrador retrievers. He also cherished traveling and exploring the beauty of the earth alongside his family.
Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Nov. 21, 1987, he held a personal faith and a firm hope in the resurrection mentioned in God’s Word.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Dawn Hughes Smith; his two sons, Joshua Blake Smith and Travis Tyler Smith; his five siblings, Christopher Smith, Lisa (Darrell) Smith Rimmer, Angela (Kenneth) Smith Michael, Sarah Nicole Smith and Amanda (Jerry) Smith Hopper; his brother/uncle, Stephen (Carla) Smith; his parents through marriage, David and Kathy Hughes; his three siblings through marriage, Ginger (Tim) Hughes Vanderheyden, David (Sunny) Hughes and Candi (Clay) Hughes Cupples; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and dear friends too numerous to list.
