Judy Ann McCormick Loftis, 74, of Medon passed away Dec. 20, 2025, at her home. Memorial services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main with Robert Greene officiating. The family received friends at East Main from noon until 2 p.m. service time.
She was born Aug. 22, 1951, in Bolivar, the daughter of the late James Newton and Thelma Alene King. She grew up in Chester County and attended Chester County High School. She attended Jackson State Community College, earning an Associate of Science degree in 1987 at the age of 36. She later earned a BA Degree in Science in Organized Leadership from Union University in Jackson in 2001 at age 50.
She married Billy Joe Hill in 1971, and they shared a daughter Beth Ann together. She moved to Powell and attended drafting school in Oak Ridge. She worked for Dempster Systems for four years.
She returned to West TN in 1981. She married Bill Loftis on April 12, 1983. They made their home in Deanburg. They have been married 42 years.
She began working at Harmon Automotive in 1981 and worked there until they closed in the mid-1990s. She worked as a contract engineer for several years after that. She last worked for Delta Faucett for over 10 years before retiring in 2015.
She was a staunch advocate for education whether it be University or trade. She was committed to community service. She was a member of the Deanburg Community Club and served many times as President. She was also a member of FCE and a member of the Eastern Star.
She loved people and was always willing to help others. She had many “adopted daughters” whether Beth’s friends or family. She kept a board at work with pictures of workers’ kids that she referred to as her “grandkids.” She was a member of the New Union Baptist Church in Bolivar. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, crafting, photography and traveling.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Garrett Loftis of Medon; a daughter, Beth Ann Hill of Murfreesboro; two stepsons, Gary (Shanda) Loftis of Knoxville and Tom Loftis of Knoxville; one grandson, Jayden Loftis; a brother, Wayne King of Jackson; and three sisters, Nelma Dabbs of Sulphur, Okla., Carol Maness of Finger and Bonnie (Matthew) Hostetler of Selmer.
