Farming is well underway in the Silerton area. Spraying was done a few weeks ago, and planting was done in most of the area. Let us all hope for a better year than last year. Such is the ever-eternal hope of every farmer.
Prayers were requested for Lynn Cook and Andrew Glissen last week at Silerton Baptist Church. Happy birthday was sung to Jason Howell.
The Frys took a trip to Paris to enjoy the “World’s Biggest Fish Fry.” The line to the fish tent was tremendous, yet it did move relatively quickly and just took a little over 30 minutes to get inside. The meal was worth the wait. It is difficult to fathom how much fish was fried and how many hush puppies were pupped during the entire multi-day event.
Decoration Day (May 3) at Silerton Baptist Church was a wonderful success, with a large turnout, a beautifully decorated cemetery, a great service, rejuvenating fellowship and a delicious meal. The fellowship hall was packed, and the spill over had to use the outside picnic tables, who perhaps had the better seats because of the excellent weather. Many old friends and relatives reconnected and visited with each other. It was very much a reaffirmation of Silerton’s place as a loving community and as a place you are proud to say you live in or are connected to in some way. Debby Ross gave an early announcement that the children’s “Wednesday in the Park” will start at 8 p.m. June 3 and go through July 29. Condolences to Kim Clifton, Cody and family on the passing of father and grandfather, Dennis Russell. There was a visitation at New Bethel Baptist Church on May 2, and the funeral was on May 3 at New Bethel Church. Prayers are requested for Braylin Robinson and his family of Chester County. Braylin suffered a serious injury while playing a baseball game. Prayers also for the players on both teams as they cope with this.
The City Council meeting that was to be held on Tuesday, April 28, was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Piney Grove Baptist Church will move services to Wesley Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Mother’s Day, May 10. There will be no services at the church building that day.
Children of Gilbert and Lois Stack enjoyed a weekend of sibling togetherness. Betty and Ed Burnett traveled from Huntsville, Ala., for homecoming at Silerton Baptist Church. On Saturday afternoon, they arrived at the cemetery to place flowers on family graves. Then, they carried flowers to Cooper’s Chapel Cemetery to place on family members there. They enjoyed having Paula Hinson to help with the placing of flowers. Betty, Ed and Grady enjoyed a barbecue meal with Frankie and Mary Lynn Lambert. They enjoyed morning worship at Silerton Baptist church and the delicious meal. To finish off the weekend, they enjoyed meeting at the Sedberry house for more togetherness.
