Wanda Juanita Helms Morton, 80, of Lexington passed away Friday, April 18, 2025, at Henderson County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Bro. Bobby and Bro. David Beecham officiating. Burial followed at Stone Hill Cemetery. The family received friends at East Main from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, April 21.
She was born and raised in Chester County, the daughter of the late Nell Virginia Helms. She attended Chester County High School. She worked a few years in Lexington Metal.
She married Guyron Edward Morton, and they lived in Lexington. Mr. Morton worked at the metal plant and Griggs Big Star. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She raised her children and later was a babysitter and provided childcare in her home for many, many years. Many of the children she cared for became a part of her family. The children called her “Mrs. Wanda” and “Grandma.”
She grew up attending Stone Hill Pentecostal Church. She was currently a member of First Pentecostal in Lexington.
She enjoyed gardening and working with flowers.
She is survived by a son, Wally D. (Greta) Morton; one daughter, Tammy (David) Jones, all of Reagan; and a granddaughter, Victoria Jones.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nell Helms, and husband, Guyron Morton.
