What’s holding you back?

Posted

Every January, we start strong. The gyms are packed, journals are filled with goals, and we make promises to ourselves about the year ahead. But somewhere along the way, by February, March, or maybe even sooner, life gets in the way. The excitement wears off, and the resolutions quietly fade into the background.
But here’s the question I want to ask you: what’s holding you back?
We often think failure means the end of the story. “I tried, I quit, and that’s that.” But most of the time, the only real failure is refusing to start again. Think about it, how many things in your life would be different if you simply picked them back up?
Maybe you’ve always dreamed about starting a business, but fear has kept you from taking the first step. Maybe you wanted to go back to school or sign up for that class, but you convinced yourself you’re too old or too busy. Maybe you told yourself you’d get healthier, spend more time with your kids, or finally ask that person out, but excuses piled up until you quietly gave up.
I’ll be honest with you, I’ve been there too. I’ve set goals that didn’t last. I’ve made commitments I didn’t keep. I’ve told myself, “Maybe next time,” more often than I’d like to admit. But here’s what I’ve learned: the hardest part isn’t finishing, it’s starting again.
Starting again takes humility. It means admitting we slipped. It means pushing past the embarrassment of not following through. It means ignoring that inner voice that says, “You’ve already blown it.” But here’s the good news, you don’t need a new year, a Monday morning, or the “perfect time” to start over. You just need today.
So what’s holding you back? Fear? Excuses? The voice of someone who once told you that you couldn’t?
The truth is, you have everything you need to begin again. Pick up that dream you left behind. Recommit to the gym. Call that person you’ve been meaning to reconnect with. Dust off the application for that program or job. Show up at church again. Or maybe, just maybe, pause, take a deep breath, and pray for the first time in a long time.
Life is too short to live paralyzed by excuses.
So here’s my challenge to you: stop waiting for the “right moment.” The right moment is now. The only thing worse than falling short is never trying again. You got this!
