Sunrise

Often when we are suffering a new loss and beginning our journey with grief, our thoughts are in a whirlwind swirling around as if in a tornado. Questions abound, and our emotions are raw, flooding our waking moments and even encroaching our attempts at sleep. It is not easy to let go of something or someone we held very dear. As we observed last week as we looked at the character of antiquity Job, his friends sought to console him in his time of need. We also do well to surround ourselves with people who seek to support us. As questions may also surround us like the circling of the wagons, the biggest one may be the all encompassing, “Why?” We may be tempted to lash out in a desire to assign blame as is so common. Sometimes the answer has been with us for a long time, and in other circumstances, as may be the case for one who has taken their own life, we may never know the answer to our “why.” This is an especially important time to surround ourselves with supporters who will not impose a time limit to grief and tears. These supporters do not need words of wisdom, they just need to be willing to remain by your side for as long as you and I need them.
This is the beauty of support groups. We come together from different backgrounds, different circumstances, and still we each have a common denominator that binds us to the other. We have experienced a loss that has left a hole in our heart and needs the consolation that others can give. Job’s friends came to give him that comfort. Jesus disciples went with him to the garden, to a place of solitude for the same purpose. On the 7th of February a support group will assemble in Bolivar for the same purpose. Thursday of this coming week in Henderson likewise, and the following week on Monday in Waynesboro to support one another (Ecclesiastes 3:4).
This is Sunrise Aftercare.
